An upcycled Vietnamese silk tote bag, pieced by hand from reclaimed silk offcuts by artisans with disabilities at Vụn Art, a UNESCO-recognized social enterprise in Hanoi.
Vụn Art takes fabric offcuts left over from Hanoi's silk workshops — scraps too small for garment-making — and gives them to artisans with disabilities, who piece them by hand into totes like this one. Each piece is one of a kind, because no two offcuts are ever quite the same. Read more about Vụn Art →
Working with Vụn Art meant building the collection around what the artisans already do well, rather than asking them to work a different way — so the designs stayed simple, and the patchwork stayed honest.
Use it as an everyday tote — for groceries, books, or as a carry-all bag. Every piece is pieced by hand, so it can also be personalized: send us a company logo or favorite image, and we'll design a panel around it.
Because every tote is pieced from reclaimed silk offcuts, the exact colors and composition vary piece to piece — here's a glimpse of designs that have come through the workshop, not a guarantee of which one you'll receive. Looking for a particular motif? Custom designs may also be available on request.
