Vietnamese Handicrafts

Vietnamese handicrafts, made by hand

SONORAVN works with a small number of materials and the people who already know them well. Everything is made in small workshops across Vietnam, in small batches, by hand — nothing here is mass-produced.

Water hyacinth, rattan, and coconut shell

Water hyacinth is cleared from waterways in the Mekong Delta, dried by the river, and woven by hand into baskets. Rattan is grown between rice seasons and woven into everyday storage. Coconut shells that would otherwise be discarded are hand-sanded into bowls and spoons. Together, these natural materials make up the Rooted in Nature collection.

Upcycled Vietnamese silk

Vụn Art is a UNESCO-recognized social enterprise in Hanoi that gives artisans with disabilities work turning leftover silk into hand-pieced textile art. Fabric offcuts from Hanoi's silk workshops — pieces too small for garment-making — are sorted, cut, and pieced by hand into totes, pouches, coasters, and wall art.

Why small batches

"Nothing here is mass-produced. Each collection stays small on purpose, because that's the only way the work stays honest."

We don't design a product first and look for someone to make it. We find people who already know a material well, and we build the collection around what they already do best.
